Very nice katana. Especially for the price. For 100 dollars you cannot beat this sword. I'm not a self proclaimed master swordsman like most of the people who write these reviews, and I'm not gonna pretend like I am. That being said I don't know for sure how katanas are graded traditionally so I'm giving this one 5 stars based on how it appeals to me. Aesthetically appealing across the board. Real hamon, everything was just as advertised. It came nice and sharp, although I plan on honing it more. I cut a few tree branches with ease, and some others weren't so easy (which may have been my technique or lack thereof). I don't know if it's razor sharp or not or how to determine that, but it sliced a paper into ribbons a few times. I would buy this sword again, in fact I probably will. No blade wobble. Yes it's made in China, what isn't these days.

Excellent training value for your $$. I own several of these. They are basically unbreakable, unlike oak or kamagong wood bokken, of which I have broken many. These polypro bokken are not as rigid as wood, so be aware of that. Also you'll want to put tape on the grip area, the polypro gets slippery when you're training and your hands are sweaty.

The sword is oilde not too light not too thick, its edge is not as sharp as it could be but is still battle ready, I'd suggest getting a wet stone to sharpen. The steel is a modern way of recreating Damascus steel so it is Damascus steel in a way. The sword is pretty well balanced and its only flaw is the handle isn't as pretty but with looking at it more thoroughly its very sturdy. No katana is meant for cutting tree limbs as no sword should be used as such, the metal is long so it will bend if hit against something its not meant for. Although bamboo is tougher its also hollow. Don't forget to oil it every once in a while as it is a metal that can rust. Treat ur sword with respect and proper use and it will last. It is in fact a great sword and I'm still loving it.

I love this weapon. It maybe lighter than wood, but it is far more durable. I also like its lightness because it can used with speed. I plan to get a second one to have a matching pair. I have 2 Wooden Wakazashi Bokken and 1 Wooden Tanto Bokken, and all three are stored because they get chipped and start to split. I will only use Cold Steel Trainers from now on. The Cold Steel trainers don't have the distracting vibration that wood creates hitting a target. Lastly, a well placed strike with a Cold Steel trainer can be just as brutal as a Wooden Bokken strike.

Excellent training value for your $$. I own several of these. They are basically unbreakable, unlike oak or kamagong wood bokken, of which I have broken many. I usualy love cold steel knives. This katana arrived a bit sub standard. There are rust spots about 2 inches long on the face of the blade. Also on the spine at about the center point on the blade there is a 3 inch rust spot. Most of the length of the blade was dull except for the tip. It appears as if the katana had been stored for a very long time or handled much before it was sold to me. I will however keep it and attempt to buff out the rust then sharpen.

I grew up Hawaii a mostly Asian culture and I have wanted a great Katana for about 24 years. I have been to Japan, South Korea and China. I have looked at many shops and I have always found cheap swords that weren't worth the time or money. This sword on the other hand, is worth every dime. It is solid, well made, and I am proud to have this in my house. I'm not hating on any other brand, I have just found this sword to be worth the price. Also the artwork done on all of the prieces of this katana are crafted well. I have already ordered a wakazashi and Tanto from Ryumon to have a complete set. I know I will not be disappointed.

Given the price, I was a bit skeptical, but was surprised that the quality was awesome. Good weight and balance. Very sharp. Some reviews have complained that it is made in China, but the Chinese have been making swords for over 2000 years. This is a Ten Ryu katana. One of the better low price swords, since a real Japanese katana would cost between $5000 and $50,000. Dual mekugi pegs add strength so there is no looseness between the nakago and ho. The hamon doesn't appear to be etched. I did however replace the saya with a leather wrapped one that I can wear over my shoulder.

Not going to lie I expect this to be a complete s*** of a blade. Meaning like the cheap ones you get, were the blade rattles, you can remove everything with a single bolt, welded together on some little piece of metal, duller than a butter knife, rusty, easily bend, etc. This has been everything that but that, I was SHOCKED! Put together properly, not a single rattle sound, blade fit into the sheath, has a smooth unsheathing to it as well. Taking it apart was a little tough to how tightly the handle was fitted, which is good.The blade held up well against my friend's $1k Bungei sword, yes I compared a cheap Amazon sword to the glory of Bungei scream at me all you want.

Sword came in quickly. Blade quality and handle is very nice. Great for form practice. I bought a new guard from same company and I fell in love. One of the strongest blades I won that isn't truly Damascus steel, but is very close to the strength of such. This blade has a good weight to it, which makes it very easy to cut through many things given it has a sharp edge, which mine does. The design and construction are marvelous and I would definitely give this blade some consideration if you are looking for a good sword.

i just got this sword today the shipping was early by a day and the boxing was good and it came with a stand and belt. the craftsmanship of the blade was great and it feels like it could put some real damage out. its worth the money in my opinion. the tsuka was fit for either one or two hand wielding and the blade was almost razor sharp.

This is an awesome weapon. Yes, weapon. This is not a toy or a show piece. This Katana came very sharp and battle ready. A few passes in my ceramic sharpener and it is razor sharp. The details, from the braided silk over sting ray skin hilt to the carbon steel blade are impressive. And I paid about half the price listed on the "Cold Steel" site. Bottom line...
